The Cofis were looking to maintain their high scoring start to 2017 with the visitors Ruthin having had a disappointing season to date. With conditions conducive to open rugby, the Cofis were soon on the attack and with only 4 minutes on the clock , a scintillating run by Iolo Hughes broke through the Ruthin defence and with Adam Thomas breaking inside he offloaded the ball to Mike Downey to cross under the posts, however the referee adjudged the final pass to be forward. It was the visitors who drew first blood with Nathan Jones converting an early penalty. The Cofis then had 2 penalties which the reliable Dom Yau for once failed to convert, and some quick counter attacking by Ruthin centre Mike Evans, winger Huw Parry crossed over in the corner, converted by Nathan Jones., to make the score 0-10 to the visitors. With play continually interrupted by several off the ball incidents, the Cofis were next to score Downey crashed over the line to score to make the half time score 5-10. With the Cofis now playing up field and with the wind behind them the visitors were pinned in their own half, and although the home team failed to cross over the try line they nibbled at Ruthin's lead with Yau hitting the post with 1 penalty but on target with 2 to make the final score 11-10, and secure a narrow win.
