Llangefni 15. Caernarfon 18.

This was the third meeting between these two sides this season and although a league fixture, it transpired that it was the most uninspiring of the three contests. The weather conditions were adequate but both set of supporters did little to uplift their team in order to create that much needed competitive edge.

Caernarfon finally took the spoils by virtue of having a dominant scrum and better rolling maul technique but they left it late to use them tellingly.

The Cofis started brightly and kept the Islanders within their half for the first fifteen minutes. Two penalty attempts just missed the mark and flanker Dafydd Thirsk was prominent in ensuring that Cefni gained no yardage when trying to run out of defence to relieve pressure. However at the beginning of the second quarter Cefni managed to retain ball and secure quick release in order to enable Greg Horsman to influence proceedings. One mid-field feed failed but on re-gathering he kicked through and won the chase over thirty meters to score a fine individual try. Gethin Andrews put his Bodedern honed kicking skills to good effect to slot the conversion and establish a seven point cushion.

The Cofis continued to dominate possession and territory but on occasions chose the wrong options when within striking distance of the try line. A high tackle call reduced Cefni to fourteen but Tom Owen simply upped his game and continued to negate Caernarfon's best efforts. However following a series of drives close to the line a forward moving scrum finally allowed scrum half Iwan Evans the opportunity to pounce and ground out wide. the conversion was missed so Cefni were two points to the good at half time.

Caernarfon had a purple patch at the beginning of the second period with two penalties by Guto Pierce adding to their tally to ensure a four point lead. A good tackle by Cefni flanker Eifion Roberts halted one other promising looking foray and a 50 meter dash by winger Tomos Jones was inches short of finding the final telling pass that would surely have opened a comfortable Cofi wining margin.

However, as in the first half, and on entering the final quarter Cefni had a new lease of life when from a solid scrum, Andrew Mcminimee picked up and darted off to the blind side and mesmerised the cover with sheer speed to score a cracking try. The touchline conversion was missed but minutes later Andrews slotted another infield penalty to create doubt in Caernarfon minds as to their ability to overhaul another four point deficit.

Thankfully for the travelling supporters the Cofis raised their game one more time and threw everything at the Cefni try line only to have effort after effort thwarted by brave defensive work. However as all were tiring one re-set scrum brought the reward required with the retreating Cefni pack not able to deny makeshift Number Eight, Shaun Owen from grounding at the death. Guto Pierce added the conversion to ensure that more than a Cefni penalty would be needed to lose the match, much to the relief of all Cofis present.
